Clinical Applications of Music & Meditation in Addictions Counseling

July 20, 2010
8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Virginia Summer Institute for Addiction Studies 2010
Williamsburg, VA

Learn how music and imagery offer a powerful adjunct to traditional approaches in working with addictions. Music and imagery work provides a supportive container for the client’s experience of strong emotions as they work through anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and trauma associated with the impact of addiction in their lives. This offers an empowering means for clients to more deeply engage with their inner struggles as well as inner resources as they develop, establish, and maintain a recovery process individually and as group members. Participants will be introduced to The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music, a music-centered therapeutic process, as well as a number of mindfulness meditation practices.
